This week's word is...
soft

How to play: Find the word in any WIP and comment with the sentence containing it. Just the one, ideally! The less context, the more hilarious & interesting it can be.

Rules:
- All fandoms, all ships, all writers welcome
- Give a head's up for disturbing/distressing content
- If you share a sentence, please read some left by other writers and drop at least one person a comment. (If you leave the first comment, thanks for starting us off and please stop back later!)

You can also play on bluesky and on tumblr!

This weekend on discord is our first writing retreat weekend of the year! The retreats are lightly structured, self-paced weekends where we come together to log as many words as possible. They're my favorite thing we do. If you're at least 18, you're welcome to join us.

Also on discord, we're currently hosting be kind, rewind!, which runs through the end of May. It brings back six past events: Rise of the Dead Fandoms, Tiny Ship Fleet Fest, Dark & Cozy, Make Me (Crack) Ship It, To Spite You Personally, and Fandom Smash-up!

So yeah, I told you, I get into the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom, and I start writing smut. I have written more smut.

To do anything at all (Akutagawa/Dazai/Atsushi) was one of the dirty fics that was born from fandom conversation I had with my friend Onnastik, and not there's a (longer, more explicit) sequel. And actually so many porn scenarios in this verse that are in our heads but won't be written because they only interest us. ^^
Still, it can't hurt posting. Also, archiving!

Title : Whether foul or fair
Author : Nelja (me) and my friend Onnastik
Fandom : Bungou Stray Dogs

Today is the day Sign ups open for the writing half of our teams! That means sign ups not just authors, but betas and pinch hitters (writers) as well. You can find the form by clicking here!

A few reminders for today!

1. Be sure to read the rules as they are different from previous rounds of GBB.
2. If you are both an artist and an author make sure that you are signed up for author and an artist, but do not select the author role in the discord server until after claims. If you have both roles, you will be put last for claims.
3. Even if you are already on the server and have a role, you must complete the form to be officially signed up for the event. On the last day/when this round of sign ups are closed (April 6th) I will be moving everyone that has not completed it to the Onlooker Role in the server.
4. Be sure to list the best way and it is recommended to also list a back up way to reach you in the form. It is how the mods will reach out to you and how teams will be connected as well.
5. If you are on the server, please make sure your server nickname is the same or contains the same name you listed in the sign up form. The mods just want to make sure we are linking the right usernames up and callin’ y’all the right names throughout the event.
6. Have fun and please reach out to a mod via replying to this post, email, tumblr ask, or discord if you need help or have any questions.

Hi!

I have a character in a sci-fi universe who ends up "shipwrecked" alone on a completely uninhabited planet for two years. The planet, and the specific environment he lands in, are perfectly habitable by humans (we are in soft scifi territory here, very Star Trek inspired) and he's able to survive with some effort. (The details of how are not really important to the story - I know at least that he's the kind of guy who'd be able to salvage some tech and emergency supplies from his wrecked ship, and I'm comfortable with brushing past the details of what exactly he brought with him - but if anyone's really interested in coming at it from that logistical angle, I won't stop you!)

What is more relevant to the story is how this experience would continue to affect him by the time he's back home safely. I think there are a bunch of possible avenues here and I'd love to see people's takes on how they would approach this or approach researching it. For example, here are some of my cursory thoughts:
  • PTSD is certainly a likely long-term complication
  • It's implied that his shipwrecking was not an accident/was engineered maliciously - I imagine this is something he has dwelt on heavily throughout the two years and will affect his ability to trust people (and to visit other uninhabited planets in the future!). Seems like it would be easy to get caught in delusional spirals in a situation like that.
  • I know that prolonged isolation can cause hallucination/psychosis in some cases, especially in solitary confinement, sensory deprivation contexts, etc. Is that as much of a risk in this case? And if so, do you think he'd still be experiencing psychotic symptoms after the fact?
  • One of his personality traits is that he's fairly attention-seeking - I think it's likely this incident will exacerbate that and make him more desperate for connection
  • It'll probably alter how he approaches social situations in the future in general; that's something I'll definitely be thinking about
  • Perhaps he got into the habit of talking to himself on the planet, and this never went away
