Recently I was referring to a friend the tabletop RPG "René, le jeu de rôle romantique"
It's a French RPG about playing Romantic poets (and others), you can play it parodic or serious, the rules had made me laugh a lot when I was young. Regularly I'm in fandom where the characters are Overdramatic, and I think: you should be made into a René character.
I thought it was long lost!
But no, it still exists on the Internet! dates from February 2000
René, le Jeu de Rôles Romantique

As it's in French, for people who want to have a laugh, I want to summarize the character creation:
* Your three Attribute are your Rage, your Despair and your Inimical Old Age (your age, basically)
The first two change all the time, if they go too high they decide if you comit an act of madness/commit suicide.

* In addition to attributes, you roll 1d10/2 (round up) to know the number of your Problems, and then you roll into a big Problem table.
Are you a poet? (if so you have a minimum time writing or telling poetry every day). Are you naive? Homosexual? Republican? In love with a family member? Short? Obsessed with the occult? Badly dressed? An ecclesiastic? The list is... not exactly ensless but it's fun.

* All skills or powers are optional and give additional problems

* Last character creation step: choose an element of your character that flutters in the wind (hait, scarf; coat...)

This week's word is...
smile

How to play: Find the word in any WIP and comment with the sentence containing it. Just the one, ideally! The less context, the more hilarious & interesting it can be.

Rules:
- All fandoms, all ships, all writers welcome
- Give a head's up for disturbing/distressing content
- If you share a sentence, please read some left by other writers and drop at least one person a comment. (If you leave the first comment, thanks for starting us off, and please stop back later!)

Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

Right now I want to write a love letter to the people who share or have shared my fandom obsessions.

Some of you I only shared a fandom with, and for six month only we were offering each other gifts and visiting each other in real life, and you know? It was still awesome.

Some of you have gotten into fandoms just to be there with be, out of trust for my opinions. Some of you I have gotten into a fandom for you, and it was so worth it.

Some of you we missed each other time-wise, and still, when you get into something I was into ten years ago, you're being all "yeah!" about it, because you remember and same in the other direction, I'm so reading all your old posts.

Thank you all <3

Hello! I have three questions, all about the work of trauma/critical care/acute care surgeons in the US:

1) Would it ever be feasible for a TACS attending at an academic Level I trauma center to take semi-regular lunch breaks when on day shift (obviously assuming there’s no major trauma needing resuscitation and/or immediate operation, and assuming they have adequate support from residents, etc.)? What if it was decreed necessary by their doctor or their psychologist?

Narratively the goal here is to get the character outdoors near the hospital at a regular-ish time for ~30 minutes at least a few days a week, on at least some weeks. Judging from what I’ve read from people in this specialty on reddit it sounds as though this might (???) be achievable at some hospitals, especially if their setup happens to be rotating weeks of ICU / non-ICU trauma / EGS / admin-and-research, but given the apparent prevalence of hospital workers in acute care specialties not getting any breaks whatsoever I really can’t tell.

2) At what point is the TACS attending no longer involved in a patient’s care if the patient ends up requiring a long-term (at least several months) hospital stay to recover? Would it be as soon as the patient is stable enough to be out of the ICU? My understanding is that since trauma surgeons are largely doing non-surgical critical care and may often be in charge of the ICU they might be managing an operative trauma patient for a while post-op, but I’m not clear on at what point that patient stops being their problem.

3) To whom would a TACS attending (again, at an academic Level I) report to within the hospital hierarchy? Would it be the chief of the trauma service(?) (And would that person be the same or different from whoever they would need to clear FMLA leave or vacation time with?)

Any information or corrections on any of this greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Pets of Fandom

Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

I don't have any pets, so you get a top 5 of some of my fave fandom pets!

1) Mogget (Sabriel). It's a cat who will give you occasional advice, who is very much, probably, an Eldritch horror, but who also very much acts like a cat, I'm deeply in love with him.

2) Old Lace (Runaways). Because "I have no super-powers but also my pet is a Deinonychus" is an incredible concept :D

3) Rio (Arcane). Wasn't a pet, was a subject of experiments, but should have been. If I can list non-canon ships in my ship lists, I can list non-canon pets.
I made a plushie of her!

4) Tetto (Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa). Just for superficial reasons, I love the design of pets that aren't species that actually exist, and it has one of the cutest I have seen.

5) Argos (The Odyssey). His death scene has made people cry for millenia. I'm just one of the people in a very long line.

You know I was heroic and didn't talk about petplay at all

Photograph of a young Asian girl using a manual typewriter in an office and looking very serious as she stares straight into the camera. Her black hair is slicked into a low ponytail and her round glasses are so big they extend past her face. She's wearing a shirt and tie and an adult-sized yellow blazer that fits her like a dress, almost as if she has been shrunk. Text, in a typewriter font: Crack Treated Seriously, at Fancake.
